Golden West

Known locally as Port Gibson Negro Cemetery
until the 1970’s Golden West Cemetery was appropriated to local blacks for use
as a burying ground at the turn of the century.
The cemetery's period of significance dates from 1900-1924. Golden West Cemetery is situated on a rolling hill rising to the west
along the outskirts of Port Gibson on Rodney Road. It posted to the National Register of Historic Places on July 22,1979.
It displays an evocative rural quality and a primitive expression
of folk art in its makeshift monuments.

Golden West went neglected for many years, but thankfully due to a group of dedicated volunteers the cemetery is being preserved.
